controller can't use A button

Have you tried to
re pair the controller to the console to see if that resets the button layout for you. If this does not work you cold possibly try a console factory reset the console? If you are unable to factory reset the console from the dashboard with another controller
please try following the instructions below to carry out a console factory reset please make sure you have all of your account details prior to resetting your console.

1. Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off.
   
2. Wait 30 seconds, and then plug the power cord back in.
3. Press and hold the BIND button (located below the Xbox button on the console) and the
   EJECT button (located on the front of the console), and then press the
   Xbox button on the console.
4. Continue holding the BIND and EJECT buttons for 10-15 seconds.
5. Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart. You can release the
   BIND and EJECT buttons after the second power-up tone.
6. The console should power up and take you directly to the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter.
7. Select the option to reset this Xbox.

To turn the system on just push the Xbox button on the controller. If you can, open the device/controller app to edit your buttons. If you can't use the A button at all you might have to do a factory reset.

i have the same problem, whenever i try to start something it just freezes and can't use the controller except for the xbox button. when i hold that button i get the screen where you can choose to shutdown or shutdown the controller, i can't select anything.
i can only press the xbox button to let the window disappear but the screen stays dark and i can't do anything.i also get the error code a lot. it says to hold the power button for 10sec. i do that and start it back up and i still can't use my xbox

it also won't connect to internet

please help!

I can't see MS using current controllers next gen. Hopefully the new controller is similar though, ergonomic, and minus a gimmicky tablet.

Around the same controller concept of Xbox 360, but with a more accurate D-PAD and RB/LB buttons swapped with better clicky buttons.

No matter what xbox one controller I use, the home button will not work. It works when I use it to turn on the Xbox one. But I can't use it after that.
