    Headset is working but does not work with the controller

    The adapter mentioned in link is optional and the update to the controller can still be installed. It's mentioned to attach adapter so it is updated as well.

    The adapter bypasses the headset socket on the controller which can become faulty over time, eg loose fitting. It also gives you volume controls at your fingertips and is worth purchasing.

    If you decide to purchase an adapter, run the controller firmware update again (see link above).

    Follow the steps in this support page, Update xbox wireless controller. This needs to be done on all controllers you may use. The uSB method is my preference.
