Constant "something went wrong" when purchasing gamertag change

I have $10 in my account for a gamertag change. All goes well till the purchase and I always get "something went wrong, try again" type message. It generates an error code but the search function brings up nothing with the code or the last 8 characters.
The same happens when my father attempts to use a stored (selectable) CC for the purchase.

Something went wrong

I tried to log in to my dow 2 game today but I needed to enter my password. I then enter in the password many times but it did not work. I was think to myself WTH was going on. Then I logged in to my live account but it needed to be verified to my gmail
account... so I didn't remember my gmail account password. I decided to use my hotmail account. When I went to change it I didn't change @live to @hotmail.com. Now I have lost game Xbox live gaming account...

WHAT CAN I DO TO GET MY ACCOUNT BACK?

I'm starting to hate all the hoops I have to go through. I'm thinking about leaving live for good...

At the time of this posting, there are currently some server issues with the "Purchase and Content Usage" servers on Xbox Live. This means that purchases on the Xbox Store, especially gamertag changes, may not work for everybody. The only solution is to
try again later, preferably once Microsoft has fixed the problem.

I'm having the same issue and according to the xbox.com/status, all of those issues are supposedly resolved.

I changed my gamertag awhile ago from “XCD to xcd” and was able to change it back to “XCD” with no issue now when I try to change it back to lowercase I get the same error

“Something went wrong. Try your gamertag again.” Been like this for awhile

Hello, I have the same issue. A couple days ago I changed my Xbox user but to no avail. The money used went through. It has been 2 days since then and my user still hasn't changed.

After purchasing the product it stated "Something went wrong. Try your gamertag again". yet money was still withdrawn.

I have signed in and out and checked my order history. It has appeared completed but my gamertag is still yet to change.

Thanks for the reply. I changed it on February 3rd so It seems something went wrong. Would the number of characters be a problem? The gamertag is 15 characters.
