Consolidation of email and transfer of XBOX Live account

I have had an XBOX Live account for close to 20 years now and when I set the profile up, I created a new email dedicated to it.

This was done at a time when OneDrive and Microsoft 365 was not around and there is featueres on my 365 account (on my other Microsoft account which has family linked to it) that I would like to associate my XBOX account with.

I did request this many years ago to be told that they did not have the ability to transfer XBOX live accounts from one email address to another, however we are now entering 2025. Most companies now have the ability to update login email addresses, and transfer of ownership from one account to another.

Xbox Live (now Gamepass Core) has been around for quite some time and over the years players have built up their profiles, friends list and so on, that it is not as simple or easy as just starting fresh all over again. So many years of game data would be lost.

Has Microsoft caught up and enabled this feature?

Have they listened to their customers from previous posts requesting this exact thing?

Are they making it easier to do business with their customers?

If not, why not?

basically, the microsoft email IS the Microsoft account which in turn IS the Xbox account, they are all one in the same.

Hello Alan, sorry to hear you're having trouble.

It is still not possible to merge accounts nor are you allowed to transfer ownership of an account from one person to another (forgive me if I misread that). However, if you'd like to set a new email address on your account then you can do so at https://account.microsoft.com.

Just beware though that if you do not store the old email as a secondary address that the system will think you no longer want it and delete the email from the system.

I have two xbox accounts that now have the same phone number and email, due to a primary email expiring. Can you tell me how to consolidate my accounts or add a new email to the older one?

Great question.

It is actually not possible to consolidate two gamertags into one email.

If you are just looking to change the email associated with a specific GT, you can do so by following the steps in the following article:
