Consolidating Microsoft Accounts

I have 2 Microsoft accounts, one at Hotmail (very old) and the other at Outlook (nice and newer)

The Hotmail account is tied to my old Xbox Live account. I don't have an Xbox anymore. I don't want that account.

What I do want, is one or two games I purchased through the Windows store on this Hotmail account (accidentally, which is why I want to close the old Hotmail account, make sure that doesn't happen again).

Ideally, I would imagine this could be done by merging my two Microsoft accounts into one

But I've worked with computers long enough to know that's probably not the case. At the very least, I want to remove the software from my old Hotmail account, and re-redeem the codes on my new Outlook account.

Office chat support directed me to Xbox Live support but I can't seem to get a live agent on chat, so here I be.

Does anyone have any advice for this situation? I'd rather not have to choose between re-buying games I've already paid for, and juggling two separate accounts that can't be signed into the Windows Store at the same time.

It is not possible to merge two accounts or transfer games, subscription, progress or achievements to another account.

Unfortunately no. There is no way to merge accounts or transfer anything between accounts.

We understand you'd like to consolidate multiple Microsoft accounts you have accumulated through the years into a single account.

So just to clear things up, there is no way to "consolidate" multiple Microsoft accounts. It's just not possible. Each time a Microsoft account is created it's a standalone account and an existing Microsoft account cannot be consolidated with it and vice versa.

As to the error message you are getting when adding a Microsoft account as an alias to another Microsoft account it is actually explained in our Add or remove an email alias in Outlook.com guide. To put it simply: "Existing Hotmail, Live, Outlook.com, and MSN addresses can't be added as aliases, and you can't add an alias that is already associated with another Microsoft account."
