Console serial number registered in different country

My Xbox series x console is not functioning and is still covered under the manufacturer warranty. I contacted Microsoft support, and as the agent walked me through the warranty claim, I was notified that I would have to pay almost $500 to have it fixed because I was “out of region.” According to the customer service agent, the serial number on the console is registered in Italy, not Canada. He claimed to ask his manager if an exception could be made on the warranty and was told there is nothing Microsoft can do, that I must instead contact the store where it was purchased. The store is telling me that this is a manufacturer problem and they cannot help. It seems like I am being tossed around in a situation where no one wants to take accountability. The four-month-old console is unusable and needs a repair. Has anyone else encountered this issue and found a solution?

No, I made sure of that. It was purchased new (not refurbished) and directly from Walmart.

From where did you purchase it? Do you still have your receipt?

It was purchased at Walmart.ca. I do still have the receipt, but the purchase has exceeded the 90-day limit in which Walmart will honour a return. They have insisted that the error is Microsoft’s and I must deal with them. The customer service agent I spoke with at Microsoft claims that the error was Walmart’s.

Thanks for your reply. I did try to register online earlier as well but the form does not accept the Serial Number of my controller. I believe there is a difference in the number of characters in Serial Numbers of the console and the controller. Perhaps
online registration is not permitted for controllers? Just wanted to check if someone has actually managed to register their controller online.
