Console pressing buttons on it's own

My xbox will randomly press buttons on it's own, but when I'm playing a game my controller is fine, and the console doesn't press anything. I don't know if it's hardware or my controller, and I tried hard resetting my Xbox. From what I've done, it starts when I go to look for players, it will pull it up and when I go to type it glitches out and holds the space button until I back out. And thats when the console doesn't let me do anything when I scroll anywhere it presses the button to launch, when I go to games and apps and go over to my games it presses a on the first game. I'm not doing this or the controller, the console does it on its own, but it only starts happening when I turn the controller on.

Are you using a wireless controller? if so, you may be getting interference from other devices. Try using a wired controller.

Have you tried updating the controller? For us to best isolate the issue, trying a different controller is worth a shot as well.

Try another controller if you have one? I am not sure if it is the controller but the buttons do tend to get loose and cause double button actions over time.

I don't think it's that because it's pressing it rapidly when I go over to something

I'd definitely check for a controller update first. If that makes no difference and you have a friend with an Xbox One, borrow their controller to see if the issue still happens - that will help you rule out some kind of hardware issue with your controller.

If the controller firmware is up to date and you rule out a hardware issue with a controller, I would try a factory reset of the console, choosing the option to keep your games and apps installed. It doesn't take too long to do and it may well solve your
problem.
