Connection problem old Xbox cables to modern tv that uses HDMI

There are converters for Composite cables (yellow, white and red) to HDMI, which you can search online for a good device, and then use it attached to your TV. Make sure to search in gaming-related forums for a good model (given that we can't point you to a recommended device), because they'll be the most sensible towards possible quality loss or latency increase by using these types of converters.

There may be a problem with the connection between the device and the TV.

To fix the problem:

Confirm you are using an HDMI cable.

Try reversing the ends of the HDMI cable.

Avoid using intermediary receivers or sound systems and connect your device directly to the TV using an HDMI cable.

Try connecting to another HDMI port on the TV.

Use another HDMI cable.

If possible, try using another TV's HDMI port.

If your TV is a modern "smart" TV you don't even need your Xbox.

What I do is I wirelessly link my laptop to my TV, my laptop sees the TV as a second monitor, and all I do is tell the laptop to use the TV as the primary monitor and the inbuilt monitor as the secondary.

If you don't have a smart TV, then you could just connect the monitor to the TV using an HDMI cable, I used to do it all the time and it works a treat, just the slight problem of long HDMI cable dragging over the floor.

I understand, you're using the sound directly from the TV. In that case, the problem may be related to the TV or the connection between the TV and the console.

Can you confirm that the TV is set to receive surround sound? You can check this in the TV's audio settings.

You can also try changing the HDMI cable that connects the console to the TV. If you're using an old HDMI cable, it may not be compatible with surround sound.
