Hi,

I bought a seagate 8tb Xbox Edition hard drive. when I connect it to my Xbox one s, this su immediately turns off and to turn it back on I have to disconnect the power for a while and turn it back on. why?

Could be that the sudden change in current is causing a safety mechanism to kick in. Try unplugging everything and let it sit for a bit. Connect the xbox directly to the wall, plug in the ext hdd and then turn the xbox on. If it still shuts off the hdd
is likely faulty or one of the cables you use.

First of all, 8 TERABYTES!? You must be quite the gamer.

Secondly, there are really two ways you can go about fixing this.

Power cycle. Solves most issues.
Return it and get a new one.

I also had this issue when I first Bought my Seagate Harddrive! how I resolved this issue was by plugging it in while it was turned off and then turning on the Xbox I hope this works for you!

I have 2 of them and they dont do that so they must be defective

I have a WD 8TB and a Seagate 8TB hard drive, no issues. Max overall is 16TB. You could in theory get a 10TB and a 6TB hard drive.
