Confused about Xbox accounts and email addresses

Hi,

My son's gamertag is associated with both my and my son's email address (if we log into our accounts the xbox profile is the same gamertag), how can this be the case?

Is there a way to remove it from my account without him losing his progress?

The only possible case for this would be if you and your son actually have the same account - your son email address is added as an alias email address to your account.

Does the gamertag has the same gamerpic and same suffix (or no suffix)?

I'm confused about this part.
"Note The email address that you enter can't already be in use as a Microsoft account alias."

That means I can't for example create a new outlook email address and attach it as the primary alias for my current Xbox Live gamertag? And if that's not possible for example and instead I attach a non Microsoft email address, what if I then delete my Microsoft
Account? It says that if I request deletion I have to wait 60 days.

If after 60 days my Microsoft Account and live.co.uk email gets deleted will I be able to login to my Xbox Live account using the new email address that is changed for it as the primary alias? This part I am confused and need some clarity before I decide to
proceed.

Because if the old existing Microsoft Account is still somehow linked with my Xbox Live Game profile and I then delete it and this erases the Xbox Live Gamertag+profile this will be a disaster.

If you still know the password and email address to that LiveID download it to your new Xbox and then redownload your purchases. But I am confused why you had to create a new account because your email was messed up?

Thank you for the additional information, xander. Sorry but I'm a bit confused. You mentioned on your original post that you created a new account with your email address which means that you can login now to a new Microsoft account using your email address. So if you perform an account recovery or password reset using that same email address, it's like you're only recovering the new account?

With this 30-day waiting period for security information change, did you use a different email address? Is it the correct email address linked to your original account? I wonder if it's only linked to your newly created account.
