Competitive play breaks game

I don't know if this only happened to me, but it's really annoying. So earlier today I was playing overwatch. I got off for an hour and my friend messages me. He says "get on right now there is competitive play". I decide to join my friend and I launch over
watch. For some reason I can't get in. After the title screen says "press a to play", it continously loads and displays the text "loading perfrences". I tried everything under the sun to fix my game. Nothing I do works and the game just won't let me play.
I would honestly like some assistance. I think the problem might be that my over watch didn't update. If that is the case, I have no way to update it. I have origions edition.

I'm not really interested in this game though unless there is a coop playlist to break up the game play. I don't like competitive multiplayer that much to warrant a full game, I would get over it pretty quick.

 

TO SCUFF OR NOT TO SCUFF?

Like Remedy said if you play competitive they are worth the investment. I would recommend that you order a wired controller with two paddles. Avoid the PS3 style thumb sticks, they tend to break down within a few months.

 

Well theres a couple things i can recommend in this situation one if you have the disk just delete and download it again or if you have the digital download just delete your save data then try relaunching it tell me if it helps

 

The problem is fixed. Two hours after I made this post the game just worked.
