Collision settings in multiplayer?

Wow, loooooong time since I've posted in these forums. Anyway, been doing some private MP lobbies recently, and came across something odd.

Despite setting the damage to Cosmetic in the lobby options, I discovered (much to my dismay) that after a hard shunt into a tire wall, my poor little Lotus Elan had sustained damage to its driveline, suspension, brakes, and just about every other vital
component.

Is there something I'm missing that's squirreled away in another menu somewhere so that when the lobby says Cosmetic damage, that's what I'll actually get?

Of course I suppose I could simply try not stuffing the car into the barriers, but where's the fun in that?

No collision public races

at the time of F2 I regularly hosted no collision rooms, I'd let folks who placed last pick the next track and switch the class after each race. a no collision setting keeps the stress and *** about physical drivers out of the room and lets folks compete
in a fun race environment. I also think it's a great learning tool, just like racing ghosts you get instant feedback when you hit a different line and blow by someone, or have someone blow by you... I quit playing online altogether during F3 as they took
this type of fun out of the game. IMO it is a great idea to have a no stress, no collision room/rooms in the hoppers.
