    COD Vanguard won’t allow my profile to play multiplayer


    I have two Xboxes in my house, one in my living room and one in my basement. My kids and I enjoy playing COD games online together from different rooms so we don’t have to split screen. I have been playing COD Vanguard with my son and recently it has stopped working on the basement Xbox.

    The basement Xbox is now trying to force us to buy game pass or Xbox live gold. I have never owned a gold membership and have never had a problem playing online with my son until now. Once we decline to buy the game pass it says “this profile is unable to play on Xbox live”. My living room Xbox is still working perfectly fine and allows us to play online with no issues or forced buying options.

    Why is one Xbox forcing me to pay for a subscription to play anything online (including Fortnite) and my other Xbox is allowing me to play online with no issues whatsoever?

    It shouldn't be asking you to for Gold/Game Pass Ultimate for Fortnite since that no longer required Gold, but in order to play online for most games it does require Gold. If you haven't had a subscription yourself, then someone else has and has had that console as their Home console which would have allowed you to share it. You would no longer have access if their subscription ended or they changed their Home console.

    It is just my sons and I. We are all on the Microsoft family together. We have never had a gold membership. My living room Xbox still allows all 3 of us to play online games (Fortnite, vanguard, halo, etc.). My basement Xbox won’t allow us to play anything online without purchasing a game pass or gold membership. Once we decline to buy it says our profile can’t play online

    It would be the same thing. Someone else would have that console as their Home. It may not be the same person that had the other console as their Home so they may still have an active subscription.

    I completely understand that philosophy, my question is why am I allowed to play online on one Xbox that has no gold associated with it and I have been the only owner of, but my second Xbox won’t play online. If I can play vanguard for free online with one Xbox, why would the other Xbox not allow the same thing

    It's possible someone else had used your console before you bought it and left it as their Home or maybe one of your son's friends have used it and set it a their Home, but either way, that Gold is no longer accessible to you. You'd have to buy Gold to play online.
