    Cloud saves are overwriting my local saves


    I am trying to copy a save from one computer (computer A), to another (computer B). The game in question is Resident Evil 7 (if it matters)

    I've been able to locate the saves and copy them over to several friends computers (using the same version off the Microsoft Store), and all works fine for most people.

    However, two people have run into an issue where, upon launching the game, their local saves are instantly overwritten with their cloud saves.

    Is there some setting for Xbox Play Anywhere titles where cloud saves somehow prioritize over local saves? It's only happened to 2 people out of a test of about 10, so I'm assuming something just needs to be disabled.

    Cloud saves are enabled on all 10 systems. What happens for most people, is those new saves end up getting uploaded to the cloud and can then be used on their Xbox One version, as well. I'm stumped in trying to figure out why this keeps happening to only
    a few people.

    About half the people testing this out have an Xbox One, and the other half doesn't. One person this issue happens to doesn't even have an Xbox One...

    Any suggestions would be wonderful!

    Does X1 Syncing erase over previous data?

    Syncing isn't supposed to overwrite any other save data unless you okay it. When it detects that their is different local data than what's synced, it'll ask you which one you'd like to keep, what's saved locally, or what they have in the cloud. It'll tell you which one was played most recently, which one is further with progression of the story, stuff like that.

    This is true, but the problem comes about when you save offline to your hard drive, it won't be synchronized to your cloud save. Meaning, if load the game later on, when back online, the cloud save, not the hard drive save will
    be loaded. Overwriting your hard drive save.

    You can stop the cloud save from loading, but you need to be paying attention when it happens.

    Which one do you want to use? Locally saved vs. cloud saved game data?

    If you choose the cloud save it is going to pull it down and overwrite the local save.

    well, the save is gone, picking the local will resync to the cloud and overwrite your original save, there is no restore function, there is nothing that can be done.

    you need to delete the data before you save new data.
    But every time I delete my old local save and open a new game offline, and then choose to use the new local save to overwrite the cloud save when I enter the online game, a lot of files will be automatically downloaded from the cloud, and an error will be

    you overwrote steams cloud save, that's it, it is now gone. Never overwrite steams cloud save as the local one in that situation will be the newest save with nothing in it.

    You won't get compensation as you chose to overwrite steams save and they cannot recover the old save as you have now synced the new one to steams server.

    Nothing Microsoft or the Devs can do as the save is on steams cloud not Xbox cloud.

    Same thing happened to me on Forza Horizon 5 but on Microsoft app not steam, it can happen on any platform that uses cloud saving.

    I now manually backup all my saves weekly to a USB pen that way I can recover if it happens.
