Cloned SSD to larger drive, now FS won't start

Hi, I have FS2020 (physical disc version) installed on a separate 256 SSD (drive G). The SSD was almost full so I cloned it to a 500Mb SSD. Windows loaded fine and could see the drive (still G). Went to disk mgt and extended the portion so I now have c200GB free space.

However when I try and launch FS I get the error "Microsoft Flight Simulator can’t open because it is offline. The storage device might be missing or disconnected."

The drive is accessible, I'm connected to the internet and have Disc 1 of FS in the dvd drive.

Google has lots of things but mainly linked to xbox and ms store. I've followed some of them:

    - updated all apps in MS Store

    - ran WSReset

    - Reset gaming services

    - Repair & Reset xbox app

Is the install integrally linked to the original SSD? Do I need to somehow tell windows or the FS Server that there's a new SSD?

Am I going to have to do a re-install form the disc and reinstall everything (which would be very painful lol)?

    Any help really appreciated.

    :)

    Hello reddwarfcrew,

Thank you for your prompt response.

I would agree with you that you did it right when copying the game folder and reinstalling the game through Microsoft store. Even if you have physical disc, since the license of the game was already digitally link to your Microsoft account, you can have the option to reinstall it through the store.

Since you have launched the game successfully then it should be up and running and you can get back in gaming now. We appreciate if you provide us feedback as soon as possible or we will be closing this thread as resolved.

Once again, thank you for choosing Microsoft. Stay safe!

    Sincerely,

Thanks, so I tried that and to no avail. I think I have got it working now but need to do some testing. What I've done:

    • Copied the FSIM folder
    • Popped the FS2020 Disc 1 in and started the install exe, this then opened the MS Store where I chose to re-install
    • I let it do the first part of the install but cancelled when it wanted to install c200Gb
    • Rebooted and opened FS, this time it opened without error and stated there was a mandatory update of 500Mb
    • Did this and all seems to be okay
    • The Sim still shows my flying hrs

Need to do some testing later this week to see if it has saved all my previous config, then I'll delete the copied FSIM folder.

    Hello reddwarfcrew,

Thank you for sharing your concern here in Xbox Community Forum and we hope that all is well.

We understand that the issue started after making changes with the hard drive. Let us see how we can help.

We would like to ask few questions so that we can isolate the issue further.

    1. What is the version of Windows you are using?
    2. Are you able to launch other games without an error?

For the meantime, we are going to make sure that your Windows is up to date and perform repair of the game. Here are the troubleshooting steps that we can do.

    1. Make sure Windows is up to date

    • Press the Start button on the taskbar, type settings, and then select Settings.
    • On Windows 10, select Update & Security. On Windows 11, select Windows Update.
    • On the Windows Update page, select Check for updates to see if any updates are available including optional updates for your device.
    • Once the updates have downloaded, select Install now to start the installation.
    • Following installation, we recommend that you restart your device so that the latest updates can take effect.
    2. Repair the game

    • Open the Xbox app
    • Sign in with your Microsoft account
    • In My Library, search for Microsoft Flight Simulator or mouse over the Microsoft Flight Simulator icon in the "installed" menu
    • Click on the 3 dots menu then select Manage
    • Click on the Files tab then click on Verify And Repair
    • Confirm your choice and wait until the message "Ready to play!" appears.

For your reference, we have found the official article provided by the game developer on how to perform repair and install updates. See the link below:

We look forward to your response. Kindly let us know, if there is any misunderstanding or clarifications of our description by sending us a reply.
