Basically you have.to.do.it.twice.once to.free.it.again and.wait bit then try again if it still lists the suffix you must wait for.the refresh

Hello Dhaniel, i don't get it, have you ever changed the Gamertag, or want to change it and want to know if it comes or not with suffix?

The only way to get it without the suffix is for the original to be freed up and no one else to have it. Then you'd have to change your tag to something else and then change it to the tag you want.

@SwordofWhedon - the suffix is only given if you choose a tag that is already in use or a tag with special characters. It can be avoided.

The numbers are now a part of every new gamertag, and cannot be avoided.

As per the
Gamer tag update FAQ, it states that "If a Gamer tag is already taken, a suffix with numbers is attached to differentiate you from other people with the same Gamer tag."

Prior to you accepting your new Gamer tag, you are prompted with a preview of how it will appear looking forward. Unfortunately, if you have already used your free Gamer tag change,
you will be unable to change it without first providing a a fee.
