I have already chatted with support from both Microsoft and the Xbox team. When using the Xbox app on both my Windows 10 PC and Windows 10 Mobile phone and attempting to send a message to my friend, I get a pop up box with the message "Choose something
else to do. Because of your past behavior, you can't send messages." It has already been confirmed by two technicians that I have no bans or suspensions or enforcements on my account. The app itself is somehow treating me as if I have bad behavior. And there
are two ways this was confirmed. Logging in to Microsoft's website and sending a message through the website works completely fine. I was also directed to download the Xbox One SmartGlass app on my phone. I was able to send a message with the SmartGlass app.
So the Xbox app is not allowing me to send messages. Both the apps, PC and Mobile, are version 19.19.28029.00000.

Just to add, I don't own an Xbox. I merely have the app and never really use it. It was on August 11, 2016 that I decided to attempt to use it by sending a message to someone I know who owns an Xbox. And upon first use, I get a message as if I have
a negative remark to my account.

Would greatly appreciate any help on resolving this issue with the app.

On all of the accounts on my Xbox I am unable to send messages, talk in party chat, customize my profile, or even play multiplayer even though I know I'm not banned on all the accounts. I checked my enforcement history, emails, and Xbox messages... Nothing

 

It seems to be an issue with the app. Same happened to me today. I can use the xbox.com website fine to send messages though. Perhaps try re-downloading or logging in and out to see if it fixes it.

 

Already tried both of those solutions. Does not fix the issue.

No, it's not the BETA version. It's the official version, and it just updated a few moments ago from this posting.

 

I am having the same problem. I tried logging into a different computer running an older version ocf the xbox app and was able to send a message but am not able to with the current version.

But you can send messages from Xbox.com? Can everyone please download the beta app to see if the issue still occurs?

 

Yes, Xbox.com still works and allows me to send a message. I just downloaded the Beta Xbox app. I was able to send the message without any error messages. The official Xbox app still does not let me send a message. If the Beta app doesn't change much, than
I can only hope that it fixes the issue when it goes live.

Now, I still have to figure out why the messages aren't reaching him. (separate issue aside from being able to send a message)

 

Did you find any resolution to this? I'm having the same problem (missed this thread before I posted, apologies). Are you able to actually play online with a friend - is it just the messaging that doesn't work? That would be ok as communicating with someone
on a PC isn't really an issue. Still annoying though!

 

The only resolution I got was using the Beta Xbox app. When trying to send messages I wasn't receiving any messages about past behavior. I can't state anything about playing online as I don't do that. I don't even own an Xbox and I don't play many games
on Windows apps. I only wanted to try and use the app for communication purposes. I was still able to send a message from the website. I was getting this error from both my Windows phone and Windows 10 PC. But even when I was able to send a message, the recipient
wasn't even getting it. Not sure on that problem now. But at this point in time, I'm starting to not care about it anymore. It's not working correct for me and I have other means of contacting the intended person. I merely wanted to try something different
out, ended up failing on me, so no longer really interested.

Sorry I couldn't be of much help, but I haven't gotten much help in this either.

 

Apologies about the delay. The reason I suggested the beta app was that it contains an important feature: Report a problem.

Within the beta app, on the menu on the left hand side, there is a smiley face icon. Click that and select "Report a problem you're having with the Xbox app (beta)" button. Doing so will allow you to submit feedback regarding the issue, including what steps
you've taken to resolve it. The report will also package up some telemetry and help us track down errors.

Also, keep in mind that we've recently tweaked the way messaging works. This is why it's important to make sure you're on the very latest version of the Xbox app. Everyone should also try signing in and out of the app, as that will often times resolve these
kind of issues.

If that "Report a problem" is only for the BETA, then it would do me no good as I have the issue in the official app. The BETA app solves my issue I was having with not being able to send. Unless I can report for any version. And as far as the latest version
goes, it's set for auto update so I always have the latest. I've also already tried logging out and back in, multiple times, with no success. So if the BETA app launches as is, for the most part, then that will resolve my issue, at this point in time.

So let me know if the "Report a problem" is for any version, BETA or Official. I'll send a report in. But if it is only for BETA, no point.
