  1. Child consent deleted, can't recover it

    Hi,

I had Minecraft, my daughter didn't, we wanted to play Minecraft together on a server that I host at home.

So I wanted to buy the game for her too. She created her microsoft account jokingly added our dogs birthday as a date of birth. Our dog is one year old. My daughter 15. I didn't know this, she has sent the consent email and everything and I approved it. Then we wanted to buy the game itself, she has sent the request again, but she didn't know she has to change the country at the request, so it stayed on the default United States. I tried to buy the game, but I couldn't change the country, so it didn't accept my credit card as it is made in another country. I checked the forums and the support, they suggested to change the country in the accounts. We never had the United States there as a country, but ok. To change it I had to delete the consent to my child. I said ok, I did it and I could change the country, however it didn't help as the request was sent with the US as country, but I didn't know this and it wasn't mentioned anywhere. I figured it out myself, by deleting the old request and request it one more time with the correct country. I could buy the game finally. It was like an 8 hour trip so far, thanks to microsoft's amazingly complicated stuff. I was so happy, but when I started the game from my daughter's account to see if it works. She cannot join to multiplayer games as it is blocked and her age needs to be changed in her microsoft account otherwise we cannot play on our self-hosted lan-server. OK I said, I will change here age as for her it is grayed out in her profile. Guess what? I cannot as I deleted my consent to change the country and I can't get back the consent no matter what.

I contacted microsoft support and the lady was amazing, but she couldn't help so she pointed me here to open a new case. The funny thing is I couldn't even send her my five star review as the whole thing ran on this error:
failed to submit feedback, please try again.

It reminds me when I wanted to have Microsoft Store developer account, but paying wasn't working, so I have Android developer account, but nothing for microsoft still, but I tried it many times throughout the years to no avail.

So this is my microsoft experience, wherever I click, whatever I try to do I get errors like it doesn't work this page is not available and so on.

Sorry I'm this negative, but this whole ordeal makes me a bit annoyed.

I hope someone can help me change the date of birth of my daughter so we can play together finally.

I hope others have better experience and could get things done.

    Good luck, have fun,

    Andras

    :)

Child consent deleted, can't recover it

    Hello Andras Csolosz,

Good to know that you were able to follow the guide we provided. The screenshot you have is supposed to be the correct page where you should be able to manage the child's account.

Since the page loops after you click on an option you may follow the steps below.

Clear your browser cache, cookies and website data.

    Use In-private browsing

    Use a different browser.

It will also be easier for you to manage a child's account if you install the Family app on your mobile device and try to manage it there.

Please let me know if this helps.

    Hi,

Thank you very much for your very detailed and useful answer.

This is the best step-by-step description I've seen:)

I will try to upload some screenshots to show you my problem:

This is what I see, when I click on the Manage consent option, when I click on view your family settings it takes me back to the family page:

Child consent deleted, can't recover it

    Hello Andras Csolosz,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I understand that you had a lot of trouble buying Minecraft for your daughter and changing her account settings. I apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this has caused you.

It sounds like you have encountered several problems with your daughter's Microsoft account, such as:

    • Her date of birth was set to your dog's birthday, which made her account restricted for multiplayer games.
    • Her country was set to the United States by default, which prevented you from using your credit card to buy the game.
    • You had to delete your parental consent to change her country, which made you unable to change her age or access her account settings.

These are some common issues that can happen when creating a new Microsoft account, especially for a child. However, there are some steps you can take to resolve them.

First, you need to regain your parental consent for your daughter's account. To do this, you have to sign in to your Microsoft account and go to https://account.microsoft.com/family/. There, you should see your daughter's account under your family group. Click on her name and then click on **Manage parental consent**. Follow the instructions to verify your identity and give consent again.

Second, you need to change your daughter's date of birth to her actual birthday. To do this, you have to sign in to her Microsoft account and go to https://account.microsoft.com/profile/. There, you should see her personal info, including her date of birth. Click on **Edit date of birth** and enter the correct information. You may need to enter a security code that will be sent to your email or phone number.

Third, you need to change your daughter's country to match yours. To do this, you have to sign in to her Microsoft account and go to https://account.microsoft.com/billing/addresses/. There, you should see her billing address, including her country. Click on **Edit** and select the correct country from the drop-down menu. You may need to enter a security code that will be sent to your email or phone number.
