Child account multiplayer games only with friends?

I have a child account set up for my 11 year old son on Xbox (he uses it on his PC and iPad). If I set the "Join multiplayer game" to ALLOW can he play with anyone or only with friends? It's not clear because it's in a separate section from privacy and
it does not have choices like "only play with friends" or whatever. I only want him able to play with friends at this point.

    :)

Xbox One with Live, Child Account unable to play online games

    Star

Yeah, NAT is already at moderate, and the child account is already set to custom and allowed to Join Multiplayer Games.

Networking itself is fine because as the parent account, I can play Multiplayer with no issue. And if I'm signed in then of course it's fine for him also.

Its only the child account that is giving me trouble. For any online game it keeps asking my child to buy Xbox Live Gold, even though a subscription is active on the box.

The error says "Your profile does not have the correct permissions to access Xbox Live functionality"

All profile settings seem to match.

    Any other suggestions?

  3. How annoying, son cannot use my Live Gold subscription.....

He should be able to use your gold (play multiplayer and do party chat) as long as you have it set in his privacy and online safety that he can join parties and play multiplayer games.

What is happening when he tries to play a multiplayer game is it saying he needs to buy gold?

as far as the free games are you talking about the games with gold? If so only the account that has the gold subscription on it can get the games with gold not the accounts that they are sharing the gold with.

some games if an account are considered child accounts even if the settings are set to allow the child to play the publisher prevents them from being able to play the games this has nothing to do xbox or Microsoft that is a publishers decision.

Child account multiplayer games only with friends?

The parental permission allows the child account to play online and from that moment you should keep in mind that online are other gamers as well. It's your duty as parent to look after your child's online safety and decide if you want to allow this interaction
    or not

You're right. If you allow mulitplayer, he can basically play with everyone.

However, you can still restrict him from talking to friends only. Everyone else in the multiplayer match will be silent and unable to talk to your kid.

Also, you can restrict your kid to only see content that others create to friends. So your kid can't see custom emblems or car paintjobs for example. However, that also restricts him to play Minecraft with friends only for example.

So feel free to restrict the personal profile information of your child's account to your liking.

However, the ability to play with friends only is game dependent. For example Fortnite, a game that is popular among kids currently, is a multiplayer game, where 100 players are put on an island. So unless your friend has over 100 friends, it would be difficult
to get him into a game with only his friends.

If it helps, Xbox will try to keep a friend party together.

So your kid can invite their friends to a party (and due to your settings ONLY his friends), and they can then launch a multiplayer game.

Your kid then invites the friends to a private lobby, and only the kid with their friends can play, if the kid keeps the lobby setting to friends only.

    Good day

Have you checked that your online & privacy settings is set to allow to join multiplayer.

If the account is a child account only an adult account linked to the child account will be able to change the settings.

    New to Xbox scene

Each child would need their own account. You can create child accounts that has many safety features for each child. This would allow them to have seperate friends, that can only be approved by you, and allow seperate game acgievements and game saves.

    Communication Ban

Microsoft has the means for child accounts to be restricted from receiving friend requests and/or chatting with people not in the friends list but that is up to the parents of the child to put those restrictions on the account.

M rating in games are only for the campaign portion of the game the online portion of games are not rated. And the ratings are only for purchasing the game an M rated game can only be purchased by an adult by law. Once the game is purchased there is no way
for MS to control who plays the game.
