Chatpad question

I understand from what I've read that Microsoft discontinued it because it wasn't selling well enough (price you pay for making a reliable product). My question though is why do all the chatpads I see now seem to require a separate USB dongle? The original chatpads simply connected to the controller with no other connections needed. Why do I now have to take up a USB slot for something that previously worked without that?

The question is hardware related and the product is discontinued which is why it would be hard to get answers regarding this. It's possible newer hardware/software etc is too complex to simply plug into the controller and so needs a dongle? Am just guessing as chat pads ar enot something I'm familiar with

I see no difference in the time at all. I love the chat pad and it works great!

If you owned the Xbox 360 chat pad, it has similar power usage. It uses the most power when it is being used.

It will be the same amount of usage as when you use a headset plugged into the controller.
