Chat restrictions for a child

You could follow the steps mentioned below to customize your child's privacy and online settings

1. Sign in to the console with the adult’s Microsoft account that’s in the family group.
   
2. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
   
3. Select Profile & system > Settings > Account > Manage family members, and then select the child account that you’d like to manage.
   
4. Select Privacy & online safety > Xbox privacy.
   
5. When you reach this step, you could select the Child, Teen, or Adult default settings, or customize your child’s settings by selecting View details & customize.
   

You can also adjust the settings online by following what's mentioned below:

1. Sign in to https://www.xbox.com with your Microsoft account. Sign in at Xbox
   
2. Select your gamertag, and then select More options (…).
   
3. Select Xbox settings, and then select Privacy & online safety.
   

It might be helpful to setup child account restrictions on any new account so that the communications feature is limited and you can monitor his gameplay and chat/messages.

Microsoft has the means for child accounts to be restricted from receiving friend requests and/or chatting with people not in the friends list but that is up to the parents of the child to put those restrictions on the account.

M rating in games are only for the campaign portion of the game the online portion of games are not rated. And the ratings are only for purchasing the game an M rated game can only be purchased by an adult by law. Once the game is purchased there is no way
for MS to control who plays the game.

some games ie destiny and the latest cods go by date of birth on the account and they block online play if under the age limit, microsoft has no control over this bit.

Thank you for coming to the Xbox forums. Unfortunately, there is no setting to specifically stop people from deleting accounts on the Xbox one. Is the account that you created for your son a child account, or an adult account with child restrictions?

He has a child account, which has restrictions. However, he is able to bypass all restrictions by deleting every account and creating a new account (not the child account I created).
