Chat channel constantly switching and making "gong" noise?

Hey folks! Has anyone ever seen an issue where the game makes a "gong" sound and shows in the top right corner that the chat channel has been changed, but then keeps doing it every 6 seconds? I made a longer post on the support forum, but thought I'd ask
here in case it's a non-support related thing that someone has encountered and knows how to fix. It isn't my chat adapter, because it connected to the main channel fine and didn't start the constant gong-fest until I joined a guild to which I've been invited.
The sound was so distracting I had to turn down the menu/interface volume, but that doesn't fix the overall issue....

Hey folks! This is a really weird issue that I've never before encountered. Tonight, I hooked up my chat adapter (which works fine) and launched elder scrolls. The game loaded, I connected & loaded my character, and things loaded perfectly. When it loaded
it connected to the main chat channel, as usual, and worked like it always does.

Here's where it gets weird. I had received an invite to a guild from a friend. I went in and accepted the invite, at which point I heard a "gong" sound. I received a notice in the top right corner of the screen that my chat channel had changed to my guild
channel 1. I thought, "okay," but then, it kept giving me that same notice and "gong" sound every 5 seconds. I went into the Voice Chat menu and when I highlighted the main channel, it acted like it was connected and not connected simultaneously. The A button
for "Join" was greyed out with a 6-second countdown that just kept resetting. Likewise, the X button for "Leave channel" was also greyed out with a 6-second repeating countdown.

I then highlighted the Guild channel, and it, too, had a 6-second countdown by the A button. There was no X button for disconnect. At the end of every 6 seconds, the Join went white for a split second, then the timer reset and I got another "gong" sound
telling me my channel had changed.

I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the chat adapter, but that wasn't the issue because the problem didn't start until I accepted the guild invite. I also tried backing out and completely quitting the game. Upon loading the game, the issue recurs as soon
as the game world loads, the only difference being is that there is no longer a greyed out X for leave channel. It acts as though it won't join any channel now. The only thing I haven't done yet is a hard restart.

Any ideas? Could this be a problem with the guild? Or something in the settings? I'm at a loss, but I'm also going to post this to the game's main forum, in case it's a non-support issue that someone there may have encountered. Thanks for any assistance!

Just following up, I had to leave the guild, and the problem immediately fixed itself and connected to the Main Area chat channel!

I've had this happen a few times and only have been able to fix it with a hard restart on the Xbox.

I'm so sick of the area chat. Why the **** didn't the dev provide an option to perma-off the chat, for those who don't care to hear dozens of obnoxious people doing anything from scamming/begging for werewolf bites, buying/selling Daedra hearts...or playing
loud music, porn, flushing the toilet, ignoring their crying baby, etc. ?

 

FYI, the hard reset didn't work, but I left the guild which fixed the problem!

THWIP, if I'm not mistaken, you can leave the channel from the voice chat submenu in the social option menu, can't you? Or does it automatically re-connect? I'm pretty sure I saw an "X" button for "Leave Channel" when I was in there.

 

Yes, Jaymo, it reconnects....CONSTANTLY...which is why I used the term "perma-off", as in permanently.

 

I got it. I asked because, technically the "Leave Channel" option SHOULD be "permanent" so, it seems like a bit of a flaw that they don't have it coded that way! :-/
