Charging Port Problems

About one year in, my elite controller can't connect through the usb cable anymore. At all. The decision to go with micro USB connectors for charging and communications was awful, guys. I was using the same xbox 360 controller from launch day until I
packed up the system. It survived through three consoles and more chewed up charging cables than I care to count, and I could have replaced it for $30 if I ever had problems. I dropped over four times that much on my elite controller, and I've already had
to manually tighten the joysticks (only took about 3 months before there was more slop in them than in a regular controller) and now the charging port is completely shot.

I'm well out of warranty, and tightening the joysticks involved cracking the controller open, so I don't expect anyone to replace or repair the controller for me. I'm just posting this to let you guys know that I'm not buying another controller until they
come with USB-C ports, or switch to a custom port/cable that can withstand the abuses of a household of gamers, and I'm definitely not going to feed AA's to it. I still have a regular controller that (barely) connects, but once that one goes, I'm pulling
the plug until I don't have to work around such poor hardware decisions. It's just such a stupid, glaringly obvious design flaw that anyone who had ever owned a cell phone could have told you about well in advance of making it into the final design, and it's
tremendously disappointing to have invested so much into what is otherwise such a great product, only for those few poor decisions to strip away some of the best functions.

Charging Port / charging cable

If you have to jiggle the cable end to get it to work, that likely means the inside of the cable has become frayed from all of the insertions/removals over time, so you probably need to replace the cable.

You can pretty much use any other standard micro-USB cable, especially the ones used to charge Android phones. These cables are readily found at almost any shop, even the dollar store.

Why is the charging port on the control and the charging cable so bad ?? We have two xbox controls that do not charge when we connect the charger cable.

However, when we move the cable back and forth then we get some contact to the control, if we are lucky.

Please replace these connectors on the controls into a much safer charging system, this are ridiculously bad cables and connectors you have now, there are much better connections to put there, SO JUST DO IT .

Considering that the controls costs a lot of money, so the connections should work much better than they do today.....

 

I've had the best battery life using Amazon Basics NiMH AA batteries and separate wall charger for the batteries for my controllers. A very minimal investment with a great value for what I'm getting.
