    Changing Xbox account


    My young son got an Xbox last year and when I set up I used my e-mail address and login details, (partly due to lack of understanding on my part, and partly due to him having to ask me to sign in so i could monitor/restrict usage).

    I would now like to set him up with his own log in with parental controls in place. I presume if I signed up for a new Microsoft account on his behalf, none of his saved games or purchases made under my account would transfer??

    Wondered if I should set up new Microsoft account and then change the primary e-mail address on Xbox to this? But then can I add parental controls if this is the only account on there?

    Would appreciate advice on how best to do this.

    I sold my brother my Gears Xbox One S along with my external HDD which had all my games on it. He'll have to use my account to play, right? I'm wondering if he could change my account's gamertag and email and make it his own and when I get another Xbox, can I reclaim my Mosh1mo name if he changed the gamertag from that name? Sorry for the confusing questions. Just wondering what my options are. I'll probably have to start all over, huh?

    It becomes available. Again though, you can just set the console as your home console. Then he can access the games from his own account and you'll still have the games for when you get a new console.

    Hi there,

    You are correct, if you set up a new account for him, none of the purchases or saves on your account will transfer. By setting him up with his own new account, you can set it with his birthday (which will put some age restrictions on what he can/cannot
    do), and you can monitor everything that he does.

    If you change the address on your current account, and create a new one for you, many of the age restrictions won't be there. You will be able to add the first account to your family. Once in the family, you will be able to monitor the account.
    You can follow the steps
    here to add an account to your family.

    Honestly, it's best to start a new account for him, with all his correct information.

    Changing the DOB on the Microsoft account does not change the date of birth on you xbox account. The DOB on the xbox account is locked in at account creation and cannot be changed for any reason

    Keep in mind that if you're trying to change the age on the Microsoft account so you can upgrade an Xbox account to adult, it will not work. Changing the age on the Microsoft account does not also change the age of an Xbox account. That cannot be changed.

    Birthdates on an Xbox account are permanent. Changing the birthdate on account.microsoft.com will not change it on the Xbox account.

    If you're using the One, you can still access the games if you leave the console as your Home console for the original account. If you want to own the games on the new account, you would have to rebuy them.

    I'm not sure how Fortnite works since a lot of that goes through the Epic account as well, but generally you would be starting over if you start a new account.
