Changing status from Adult to Child in Xbox

My son uses my Xbox account presently. I have established another account for myself as part of the family and want to change the user name he is currently using to child status.

I was told to add another adult account to the family group, then remove the original adult account from the family (the one my son uses). Then bring it back into family and change status at that time.

Problem I encounter is in trying to leave family, I am served up an error message "need to remove consent first". Go to Manage my childs profile and select remove consent. Problem is I have no child on that account. Any ideas on how to resolve short of new
user name for my son (and losing his contacts, etc)

You’ve absolutely hit the nail on the head and that’s what happened with his older brother initially putting in the wrong date of birth. Thank you. This worked

When you set the account up did you set it up with the correct DOB where it was under 18 or did you set it up as over 18 then change the DOB?

Whatever the DOB on an account is when it is ORIGINALLY setup is the DOB that the xbox profile uses to determine if it is an adult or a child and as long as that DOB is under 18 it is REQUIRED by law to be attached to an adult account.

What you can do is sign into an adult account at account.microsoft.com/family and add the account as a child account to that adult account it will technically make it a child account. but if your son ever figures out the email and password for the account
he would be able to sign into that same website and remove himself from the family which would then put him into his own family as an adult.

 

There is no way to make an adult account into a child account. You would need to create a new account as a child account for him to use and then your account would be the parent account that oversees it. There is no way to transfer any achievements or
game saves to that account.

 

Unfortunately our ambassador is 100% correct you cannot downgrade to a minors profile. What you CAN do though is manually customize the permissions that account is set up to do and then lock the permissions to enter the settings.

Here is also a link to let your kids in automatically but limit them from access the settings or buying option. You might want to CUSTOMIZE

so he can sign in without permission but needs a passkey to buy or enter settings.
