Changing Microsoft Account/Login info

Some time ago my Microsoft account was hacked. After many many weeks I finally received assistance from Microsoft. In order to do make contact I needed to create a NEW Microsoft account (to access support). After confirming the acct. was hacked they did cancel the old acct. and transferred my son's XBOX data to the newly created account, however they can not restore my data (One drive documents etc). My next request to them (since I created this new account with my business email etc.) was to instead of using this account for my son's Xbox account to instead let me start this new account for my personal and business needs (365 software) and have my son on a separate account with his own email login etc. They have ghosted me and have not returned to me with any information regarding this request.

So finally my question is: Can I move forward and let my son initiate the restoration process of his Xbox data and then he simply change his email login and password afterwards? I guess I would then need to create a new account for myself (unless microsoft allows me to use that same email address again, perhaps need to just change the password??? I am trying to not share the same account again, and I would like to have that email address that was used for the new account apply to me not him. I am very confused about using this as a "work around" because I have read that I can , I can't, and something about alias's. I hope this makes sense the way I describe it.

I'm sorry to hear about this and I can very much understand how you are feeling right now.

Regarding your question.

It is recommended that your son change his email login and password after completing the data recovery so that he can avoid some possible account verification issues.

Manage how you sign in to Microsoft

After setting another e-mail address as the primary alias, your son will be able to log in to his account using the newly set e-mail address.

In addition to this, if the email address you used before was from a Microsoft domain (@hotmail.com、@outlook.com), then it will remain in Microsoft's database and you will not be able to use this email address again if you want to create a new account.

If this is the case, then please also use a new email address to register your account.

I have found a fix for this for my 2 kids switches. Apparently when you create an account with microsoft and use it to log into minecraft it creates an xbox account for you and assigns a auto generated username. All i had to do wasgo to xbox website on
my comp and login using the microsoft login info. Once it logged into the account i went under settings and changed the gamer tag.

To change a child account privacy settings, you'll need to login to the parent account at https://account.microsoft.com

Select Manage my child's profile info.

For the child’s account that you want to change, select Edit this child's personal info and then follow the instructions.

Hi there STHolt!

Since you have to use your old email address to login to Xbox Live, I suggest you change the login email (Windows Live ID/Microsoft Account) here:

support.xbox.com/.../change-xbox-live-account-info

Follow the computer steps, and you will see an option to change your Windows Live ID.

As far as removing your email from the other gamertag, you would need access to that account to remove it. Remember that the Windows Live ID can be any email address that you choose!

Try changing it online instead. Go to
http://www.account.live.com Login with your current Microsoft Account e-mail address and as soon as your login, under overview you will see primary account alias, and that will show your current e-mail. Under that you will see the option to add or change
primary alias... so just fill in required info and that should do it for you.
