Changing gamer tag without suffix

I would like to change my gamertag to my real username, as it was never allowed on the old gamertag system.

The tag shows up as abalible using https://www.gamertag.net/. The faq for the new gamertag system says if you are the first person to get a name, you wont have a suffix.

Why is it still forcing me to have a suffix when i attempt to change it. Having numbers in my gamertag is unaccptible.

it could be in use on other microsoft services, it could also have full privacy active which means you cant look it up anyway,

It would mean someone has had the gametag before or someone is using it. I would think

The only way to have the tag without the suffix is to change it to a tag that nobody else has.

They had to shorten the gamer tags when they added on the suffix. By adding the suffix, it enabled gamers to have the same gamer tag as another gamer. The suffix is just a way of distinguishing the different gamers with the same name.

Thanks for coming to the forums. Unfortunately, there is no way of removing the suffix. They added the suffix so many people could have same gamer tag. Example if multiple people wanted John smith then the suffix gets added to tell people apart. When making
a gamer tag, it will show you what the gamer tag will look like. If it is a unique one that no one has it will not show the suffix. Please make sure you check these when going to change gamer tag. There are a few gamer tag checkers out there that are not correct.
