Changing email address on Xbox account, no longer have access

My husband is needing to change the email address on his xbox account he set up as a teenager under his grandmother’s email. Long story short we had to cut communication off with her and she changed her microsoft password so now my husband is kicked out of his Xbox account. We obviously don’t have the ability to ask her for any verification codes or anything. Is there anyway we can switch the email on the account without having to need access to the original email?

Quick answer is Yes it will.

The only thing that it is doing is adding the new email to the account and making that email the email used to sign into the account. All purchases and everything go with the account itself.

Microsoft does this because they know people change emails and sometimes no longer have access to those email accounts like if they use the ISP for their email and no longer have that ISP they would no longer have access to that email address.

To set your expectations properly, when changing an email address/alias there is a need for you to have access to the account first to be able to make the changes to the email.

You need to reset the password of the email to be able to gain access to it and proceed with changing the email/alias.

Here are the things to remember:

Kindly make sure that the new email shouldn't be associated to another Microsoft account and most importantly not associated with a previously Created Account. When you pass this part, you will surely be able to set up a new email address to your account.

for me to change the email address my account is linked too i need to it again sends and authorization code to the email address i can no longer access...

do not delete the Microsoft account you want to change the primary alias then delete the old email address you no longer have access to

Keep this in mind if you are doing this because you originally used your email address and want to change it AND the email address is a MS server email (Hotmail, outlook, MSN, live) email address if you change it and remove that email from the account
you will NO LONGER have access to that email it will be deleted from the system and you will not be able to get it back.
