  1. Changing Child's DOB

Hi, the pertinent question is in paragraph four if you would like to skip through the first three paragraphs to get to business. The preamble is simply context, but I am just about at the end of my tether with Microsoft and their unquestionable disregard
for any form of help with any of their products.

I am tech-savvy and MS products are great, but the support available on the website is nonsensical, meaninglessly circular and devoid of anything resembling what I understand is meant by the term 'help'. As for my telephone adventures, on
    every single one
of the occasions I have tried to ring MS UK, I have either been cut off, or have needed to be transferred to somebody else. Each time I am transferred, I am either cut off again, or the person I am being transferred to
is a recorded message that does not have the information I need and then refers me to....the website.

I am happy to use a website to get help. I prefer it, frankly and I understand in these challenging times that organisations are stretched in staffing terms, and of course, our issues are trivial in comparison to those faced by many people around the world.
However, the website is not fit for purpose and if additional support is not available, then the products
should not be sold. You've taken our money, so kindly lend us your support.

I didn't believe my son when he was telling me of the issues he was having, however I have subsequently apologised to him, and here I am. I have four issues to resolve, but only one that is the most pressing. The rest will wait, but
quite simply, his DOB was entered incorrectly as 2012 when we set up his account a couple of years ago. It should be 2002 and we have been unable to amend it. We are in the EU and I understand GDPR has an impact. I just need to know
how we can resolve this. Links followed from previous answers on the topic go to the same dead-end destinations I have already visited. Apologies for the rant if you did read it, but I assure you I'm not unreasonable. I just want the issues resolved. Thank
you in anticipation of your help. Be well, sincerely, Mark James.

    :)

    Family account issues

To add to what Smwutches said.

When you changed your DOB was the DOB that you changed still considered under 18?

If so then you are still considered a child till that DOB reaches the age of 18.

When a DOB is entered into an account when it is setup that is the DOB that is tied to the Xbox profile and there is no way to change it in the Xbox profile part of things.

How to modify date of birth in child’s account

Do you mean you put it as an adult and need it to be a child?

Or do you mean that you put it as a child and need it to be an adult?

What exactly are you trying to do?

Once a DOB is put onto an account the xbox profile attached to it will see that DOB as the DOB for the account and there is no way to change it.

Why can’t I use the custom gamerpic option?

There is two ways that MS sees an account as a child account.

    1. The DOB when the account was originally setup. (which is set in stone and can not be changed) If the DOB is under 18 it will ALWAYS have to be in a family as a child account till it reaches its 18th birthday.

    2. If the account is in a family as a child account. (even if the DOB is over 18 if it is still in a family as a child MS will see it as a child)

    With that being said

When you say it was set as an adult account since then do you mean in the privacy settings on your xbox?

This is not going to change it to an adult account. even if the DOB is over 18

So if the DOB is over 18 this is what you need to do.

Sign in at account.microsoft.com/family with the parent account and remove yourself from the family this will then put you into your own family as an adult.

Keep in mind if you do this and the DOB when your account was originally setup is still under 18 you will NOT be ABLE to do ANYTHING on your account till you are added to an account as a child account.
In the family, my account is certainly set as an adult. And my DOB was not changed in the privacy settings. I’m talking about the DOB at account.Microsoft.com.

Need a parent account even though I can added my debit card as an age verification

What determines whether an account is an adult or a child is the Date of Birth (DOB) put on an account when the account was ORIGINALLY setup.

So if the DOB when the account was originally setup is still under 18 it is still considered a child account and is required to have an adult account attached to it.

There is no way to change the DOB on an account once it is setup it is set in stone.
