Changing an account status from adult to child

My nine year old's Microsoft / Xbox account has the correct date of birth but the status is adult. That means I can't manage permissions such as screen time. Does anyone know how to change the status to child? Thanks

There are three accounts in total, two adult, one child. The info I gave previously was from my adult account.

I'm just checking his child and our adult statuses.

My account is Adult and his is Custom (Child setting interfered with his gaming).

You changing their Privacy Settings from Child to Adult doesn't change the account status to adult itself. So pretty much their accounts are still child. It will be possible to change it to adult as soon as they reach 18. If that is the age of an adult in
your country ofc. You cannot change that setting manually. The restriction on downloadable content stays locked until they reach the required age depending on the content age restriction.

 

Are you sure the year is correct in his date of birth. If he's 9 then it should automatically put him in a child account which is based on the dare of birth. Please double check. Let us know.

 

When you set the account up did you set it up with the correct DOB where it was under 18 or did you set it up as over 18 then change the DOB?

Whatever the DOB on an account is when it is ORIGINALLY setup is the DOB that the xbox profile uses to determine if it is an adult or a child and as long as that DOB is under 18 it is REQUIRED by law to be attached to an adult account.

What you can do is sign into an adult account at account.microsoft.com/family and add the account as a child account to that adult account it will technically make it a child account. but if your son ever figures out the email and password for the account
he would be able to sign into that same website and remove himself from the family which would then put him into his own family as an adult.
