Changed password creates security alert that forces me to change my password again in a loop

Authenticator app: If you've set up an authenticator app for your Microsoft account, you can use it to verify your identity.

Answer security questions: If you have set up security questions for your Microsoft account, you can answer them to verify your identity.

Once you have verified your identity, you can log in to your account with the new password.

Here are some tips to prevent this from happening again:

I went ahead and changed the Account, changed passwords again, made sure only I had access to the security info (even re-updated the security question). Changed the passwords on the still active EA account to a dummy password (strong, but only a series of
numbers and symbols), forced HTTPS on hotmail, included two-step verification on my alternate email address (and also on my main). Re-downloaded my profile and asked again to ask for passwords everywhere.

I sure hope this works... First thing tomorrow will be calling EA and asking for the unlink of my Gamertag from that account.

Please try changing the password of your account by logging in at this link, https://account.microsoft.com then go to Security > Change password.

If changing the password doesn't sort it out, on the same security turn on the two-step verification. Once that is set up, at the security page go to "More security options" and then click "Apps passwords." Select the option "Create a new app password." A new app password is generated and this will be the password you use to download your profile.
