Change email address on xbox

My son is trying to change the email address on his xbox account. When he enters the correct alias email he is getting a message the email address is already taken. It is already taken because he has a microsoft account set up on his desktop that associated with my company. We are paying a subscription fee for this and should not be because he is a student. I need to cancel this subscription but I'm not sure what it will do to his desktop and I also need to get the correct email address associated with his xbox. It's like the accounts need to be merged. And he cannot lose all his gaming history. He has had this xbox account for 10 yrs.

Just change the email address on xbox account 2 to some free email address and once that is done change the email address on Account 1 to the address that was on account 2.

Do you have an Xbox account too? Or did you just set up his account with your email?

If your email was just used to set up his account, then you should be able to change it to something else by going through the steps on the following support page:

Nilay here and I'm glad to answer your query today.

1. Sign in to your Hotmail email via https://account.microsoft.com.
2. Go to Your info at the top of the page.
3. Select Manage how you sign in to Microsoft.
4. Select Add email. You can create either a new Outlook.com email address or add an address that you already have. Then, select Add alias. After you’re returned to the previous screen, select Verify, and then follow the instructions that are provided.

Once done, make sure to select the new email address as the primary alias because removing the old email which is your Hotmail will delete the whole Microsoft account including the Xbox profile.

Select a new primary before you remove the old one. To do so, select one of the other aliases that are on the account, and then select Make primary.

ere are the possible reasons why you are getting the message that the email address you wanted is already taken:

1.The desired Email is Already Associated with Another Microsoft Account.

2. The desired Email is Associated with a Previously Created Account.

3.The desired Email is Reserved or Inactive.

Since it has been detected by the system already that the desired email is already taken, I would highly suggest for you to use another email to be your alias or primary alias.

Kindly make sure that the new email shouldn't be associated to another Microsoft account and most importantly not associated with a previously Created Account. When you pass this part, you will surely be able to set up a new email address to your account.

Each Microsoft account has an Xbox account associated with it. If your ex-husband used your email address when signing into Xbox, then he will need to create a new account. The only problem with this is that he would need to start over, which will include purchases that are on your account as the games he has purchased using your account are tied to your account.

I know this is the information you, or your ex, will be wanting to read. However, there isn't a way to transfer content from one account to another.
