Cec volume commands being sent even when disabled.

When I turn on CEC volume commands are sent through even when they are disabled on the right hand side option. It reads like I should be able to not have volume commands enabled however it does not seem to work.

Is this a known issue or a problem just I've been running into?

    :)

Cec volume commands being sent even when disabled.

    Hello dtroz,

Welcome to Xbox Community Forum. Thank you for sharing your concern with us today and we hope that all is well.

May we confirm if you are having issue with Xbox console controlling devices using HDMI-CEC? May we know also if you are using TV or AVR?

We understand how important it is to you. We appreciate if you provide us more details so we can provide more accurate resolution for you.

Xbox Series X|S consoles can use an HDMI feature called Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) to send commands to and from CEC-enabled devices (such as TVs and AVRs) that are connected to the console. This feature can be turned on and off via the TV & A/V power options settings screen. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, then go to Profile & system > Settings > General > TV & display options > TV & A/V power options.

    Controlling your device with CEC

Once CEC is enabled on your TV or AVR, you can control individual CEC settings on the console’s TV & A/V power options settings screen. Check the HDMI-CEC box to activate CEC.

The following individual CEC settings can be turned on or off by checking or unchecking the box next to each setting:

    • Console turns on other devices: Turning on your Xbox console will also turn on your TV or AVR.
    • Console turns off other devices: Turning off your Xbox console will also turn off your TV or AVR.
    • Other devices can turn console on: Turning on your TV or AVR will also turn on your console. Also, switching to the Xbox input on your TV will turn on your console.
    • Other devices can turn console off: Turning off your TV or AVR will also turn off your Xbox console.
    • Console sends volume commands: The console can control the volume on your TV, AVR, or soundbar. To change your volumes after enabling this, press the Xbox button and go to Audio & music.
    • Use TV remote for console: Your TV remote can navigate your console, play media, and launch apps or games.
    • Switch TV input using controller: Pressing the Xbox button on your controller switches your TV input to your Xbox console (this allows you to quickly switch your TV back to console video without using your TV remote).
If you are having trouble controlling a CEC-enabled device through your console, try the following:

    • Double-check that your device supports CEC, and that the feature is turned on in your device settings. Also verify that CEC is enabled on the console's TV & A/V power options settings screen.
    • Make sure your device’s firmware is up to date. Check your device documentation to see how to update the firmware on your TV or AVR.
    • Make sure your HDMI cable is plugged into the correct port on your device. Some devices may support CEC only through certain ports. Check your device documentation.
    • If there is another device between your console and your TV, try plugging your console directly into your TV instead. Some devices will “pass-through” CEC commands from your console to your TV, but other devices may interfere with CEC data.
    • Be sure you are using cables certified for HDMI High Speed or HDMI Premium.
    • Try power cycling your device by unplugging it from its power source, waiting for a couple minutes, and then plugging it back in.

Why does my Samsung universal remote turn off my Xbox?

Disable HDMI CEC on the Xbox. It’s receiving a “change power state” command along with the Tvs.

Failing that, cover the IR window on the Xbox , which is in a different place depending on model.

Xbox Series X - I can no longer turn off hdmi audio since installing the september update

I was searching for the HDMI volume through all the settings and couldn't find any, that's very disappointing. Most of the time I play when my kid is sleeping so I use headphones. Since I use HDMI-CEC to turn-off TV automatically, lack of this option forces me to disable sound in TV settings. And when the kid is going to watch some cartoons, I had to put it back again - pretty annoying, especially because my family watches YouTube with smart TV box connected to display, also with HDMI-CEC. To outline: I had to find TV Display own remote or go press TV buttons ONLY because of this option being missing. Very disgusting. Please fix

Xbox Mute needs to be sent twice to Samsung HW E350

Thanks for responding Studbucket33. Yeah the on/off commands work as they should. I'm guessing that it is supposed to work like that but volume up/down changes the volume two levels I think. But yeah they work.

As said before, mute/unmute needs to be sent twice in rapid succession for the soundbar to give any sort of acknowledgement that any commands have been sent.
