Casting media content to an Xbox One X?

Casting media content to an Xbox One X?
if I turned off my Xbox, and then later turn it back on. Then I wanted to go to YouTube, or the media player or any app that I can cast from my phone to the Xbox, it doesn't work. I have to completely restart the Xbox. By going to the restart button, then
completely restarting the Xbox. Then once it turns back on it works. Why do I need to completely restart the Xbox after turning it back on in order for me to be able to cast anything to the Xbox? I should just be able to turn it on and it works. I mean I have
internet connection, and I'm able to play online and do everything else internet related, but just not casting.

    :)

  2. Xbox One Casting Issues

Has anyone recently had problems casting media to your Xbox One? I usually use Allcast, but have tried Localcast as well as casting from the computer via WMP, nothing is working. Both Localcast and Allcast no longer recognize the Xbox One and the computer
can see it on the network, but it isn't a Cast To option. I have exhausted every option I can think of to fix the situation, with no success. New ideas are welcomed.

Streaming Media (Videos/Music) to Xbox One from Windows 10

    Hi,

I'm trying to stream video from my Windows 10 laptop to my Xbox One. I have enabled media streaming on my computer, and it does show the Xbox as a device which can access media content. However, I seem to be unable to actually stream media to xbox; neither
through the new "Cast to Device" (No devices listed), nor through Windows Media Player.

I've had no luck googling the problem, (though I see the others have it too, but no resolution is posted to their quests), and chatting with Support on both Windows and Xbox was a waste of my time.

What am I just not getting here?

Bug: Xbox Windows Media Player cant cast audio

I am not ready to upgrade to windows 11. Cast has always worked on windows 10 and now after an update to the Xbox Console (to replace groove music with Windows Media Player) cast no longer works. Note, this isn't isolated to my windows 10 devices. No UPnP devices (Android, IOS, etc) are able to cast to the Xbox One console.

Bug: Xbox Windows Media Player cant cast audio

Hope I'm not too late to chime in on this situation but I've been experiencing this for the past several months (going back to late last year). I've been racking my brain trying to find topics on this, and trying every solution I've come across and can think of with no success. Finally my search results showed me this post for the very first time.

First off, this update is just horrible one. The "Cast To Device" feature on my PC worked perfectly for over a decade easily allowing me to send music from my PC to my Xbox 360 (past) and (now) Xbox One. Not sure why this update from Groove to Media Player was pushed on users...forgetting the fact I can no longer "cast" with Media Player on my Xbox One, Media Player does not pick up files located my PC even after directing it to the folder to search.

Also thanks to the switch from Groove to Media Player, I can no longer stream or cast anything to my Xbox One. I'm not sure if it's all related or not but I noted before this update I could cast just about any movie, music or picture file from my PC to my Xbox One. Now, none of that works at all. I've tried several streaming applications and nothing works. One platform that for sure worked in the past was JRiver Media Center. This is a program I've been using for several years now and with the switch from Groove to Media Player, I am no longer able stream music from that program to my Xbox One. JRiver Media Center has it's own DLNA server so even when (on the few occasions) Cast To Device did not work I was able to still cast using the DLNA server from JRiver Media Center, now even that doesn't work with the error given is that can't connect the device to the DLNA server although JRiver Media Center can still see and includes my Xbox One as my list of media devices. All other media devices can still be streamed to through JRiver Media Center but my Xbox One cannot.

Also to note, I never had to allow media streaming in the past in order to be able to cast music, movies, or whatever from my PC to my Xbox One. As long as my PC and Xbox One were on the same network, I never had any issues. For the sake of argument, I did allow it and tried streaming to my Xbox One using Cast To Device, Plex, TVersity and JRiver Media Center and they all failed only on my Xbox One.

Another thing, upgrading to Windows 11 is not viable solution for me even if I wanted to. Windows Update has already confirmed my PC is not compatible to upgrade to Windows 11 (main issue being my processor, Intel Core i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60Ghz, is not supported) and unless Microsoft is going to subsidize the cost of me getting a new PC, I will not be upgrading to a new PC anytime in the near future. I really hope this gains some traction and Microsoft fixes this so casting is once a thing on Xbox One for users using Windows 10. I wish there was a way to roll back so Groove can be used again. I'm become so frustrated with Media Player on Xbox I've uninstalled it because for me it's just useless...although now it seems to "nag" now that I've uninstalled it. By that I means every couple actions I do on the Xbox One, it takes me to store where it seemingly tries to get me to install. I wish that would stop too.

How to stop a device from casting to the XBOX One X on a wifi network in 2023 ?

Hello, I'm Felipe and I'm an independent Community Advisor, and I'll do my best to help you.

If the settings or preferences options that were previously described are not available on your XBOX One X console, there are other ways you can try to stop a device from casting to it on a wifi network.

One option is to change your wifi network settings to prevent the device from connecting to the network altogether. Another option is to disable casting on the device itself, if possible.

To change your wifi network settings, you can access your router's admin page and block the MAC address of the device you want to stop from casting. This will prevent the device from connecting to the wifi network and thus prevent it from casting to the XBOX One X console.

To disable casting on the device, you can check the settings or preferences options of the device itself. If there is an option to disable casting, you can select it and the device will no longer be able to cast to any device on the wifi network, including the XBOX One X console.

If neither of these options works, you may need to consult the user manual or contact customer support for the device or the XBOX One X console for further assistance.

Xbox One detecting folders but not files

I can actually no longer create a media server. The only way that I can send files to my XBoxOne X is to cast the file through Windows Media Player. I have already uninstalled and installed the Movies & TV app several times.

I am using an external drive on my computer to store my files, but that was irrelevant prior to the update being installed.

The media sharing option turns itself off when I restart my computer. I have to turn it on and when I do the server no longer appears as an option in the Xbox One X Movies & TV app.
