capturing headset and game chat audio

If you’re headset/headset+microphone are plugged into your laptop as an audio capture device, then how are you supposed to hear the game volume and chat?

It sounds like you're encountering an issue with your streaming setup where your game chat audio isn't being captured when your headset is plugged in. Let's see if we can troubleshoot this and find a solution for you.

1. Audio Routing: Check your audio settings on both the Razor Ripsaw and your streaming software (such as OBS or Streamlabs OBS). Make sure that the game chat audio is set to be captured by the Ripsaw and routed to your stream.
   
2. Headset Configuration: Some headsets have their own audio settings or software that could be interfering with the audio capture. Ensure that your headset is set to output game chat audio through the same device as your game audio (usually the default audio device).
   
3. Elgato Chat Link Cord: The Elgato Chat Link cord is typically used to capture game chat audio from consoles. Make sure it's properly connected between your controller and the Ripsaw, and that the settings on your console are configured to output chat audio through the controller.
   
4. Audio Mixer: In your streaming software, check the audio mixer to make sure that the game chat audio source is not muted or set to a low volume level. Sometimes, the audio from different sources can be mixed separately.
   
5. Test Without Headset: Temporarily disconnect your headset and see if the game chat audio is being captured by your stream. This will help determine if the issue is related to the headset or if it's a configuration issue with your setup.
   
6. Update Drivers/Firmware: Ensure that both your Razor Ripsaw and Elgato Chat Link cord have the latest drivers and firmware installed. Sometimes, updates can resolve compatibility issues or bugs that might be causing the problem.
   
7. Contact Support: If you've tried all of the above steps and are still experiencing issues, it might be worth reaching out to Razor and Elgato support for further assistance. They may have specific troubleshooting steps or solutions for your setup.
   

You will need an Elgato or anything external capture card as that will capture any audio on your Xbox (Party, Game, All audio) you will have to turn the party chat to speaker and headset. To do this go to, Settings > General > Volume & audio output.

It will only record in-game chat if you set sound output to BOTH the connected headset and TV speakers (Xbox Guide>Preferences>Voice) and are using an audio connection that also passes through the Avermedia capture device. For example, HDMI from the Xbox
360 to your capture device will capture voice with it set to BOTH since HDMI carries audio and video. Red and White RCA cables to the capture device will also capture ingame chat.

So basically, if you do not want this, only choose output to Headset. Not TV speakers or Both.

Update: a workaround has been confirmed...

1. If using a wireless headset like I am most often doing, use a male-to-male microphone (aux) cable from the controller to either audio in on your computer OR to audio in on the capture device. Note: I have confirmed that both my Xbox wireless headset AND a wired headset simultaneously plugged into my controller both receive the same audio.

2. If using a wired headset, purchase an Elgato Chat Link cable (or equivalent Y-cables, etc) to achieve the same result as above, where the audio from the controller is split.

Ultimately, since game chat audio cannot currently be configured like Party Chat audio and it can only be sent by the console to the controller/headset, the audio needs to be captured from there.

Would prefer not to have a cord coming off my controller, but this is the only solution I've found so far!
