Capturing 4K

    My Xbox Series X won't capture anything in 4K it only seems to record in 1080p, everything is set to 4K, even when recording on my external hard drive 1080p again, I used to have a Xbox One X and I'm sure that used to record in 4k but haven't had a Xbox until recently, my capture & share are set to 4K HDR 30 seconds max and my external hard drive NTSC but everything comes out 1080p, any help would be much appreciated.

    Why are you wanting to capture at 4K? the Xbox One S doesnt render any game at 4k, so all you will be doing is capturing an upscaled image.

    maybe because the 4K captures takes a lot of memory, try to minimize the capture duration through capture settings and make sure that your captures storage is not full then try again.

    My name is welcome to the community.

    Hello Steve27uk, you belong to some level of Insider, like Alpha etc, if you're not an insider, you've tried some procedure on your console like resetting your console, either keeping games and apps or erasing everything for factory settings.

    If you haven't tried it yet, follow the procedure below for a reset while keeping games and Apps.

    Press the Xbox button to open the panel.

    Select system > Settings > System > Console Information

    Select Reset console.

    Restore and maintain my games and apps.

    Rest assured, you won't miss games or saves

    Note - You need to know the email and passwords of your accounts when performing this reset.

    Another thing that may be influencing the capture is your HD, it needs to be USB 3.0 because of the write throughput of the files.
