Captures: EVERY capture is missing now from my less than a year old Xbox, except 4 recent...

I have had my Xbox One X maybe 8 months, taking a guess and it was a maybe a few months after that when I took my first ever capture of any kind. I never kept very many captures on my system but I've noticed that some time in the
last couple week or two, maybe even just a few days ago, EVERY capture except 4 screenshots I took a few days ago, are gone (even a few screenshots from a few weeks ago are gone). Most of what I had I did upload to Xbox Live and OneDrive but a few of them
I just wanted to keep on my Xbox only and now those seem to be lost forever for no apparent reason I can find out. Why have all of my small number of captures (aside from the 4 new screen shots) now missing from my system?

I see a lot of posts here with others having this problem since at least last year and none I have seen are correctly answered why with many just closed out by an admin and some posts asking what is going on are just completely ignored that have this issue.
Most people I see that did respond, it was with how to back them up off the system which I should not have to do though I do know how and did with most (but not all). That is not what I am asking anyway. I have not even been playing games on my Xbox very much
for a few weeks (just a little game playing here & there). Did an update for the system wipe out saved captures??? If not, then what? Sure would be nice to know what to report for a problem to Microsoft or even better, how to prevent a repeat. I have plenty
of space, about 50% for internal game storage with even more space on my external drive. As for captures, only 4 images (no video) remain, not exactly taking up much space with those. I did not delete these captures and they sure were't automatically removed
to make room for 4 measly screenshots. Does anyone know what's going on?

    P.S.

I don't know if it matters but at some point, way before these captures mysteriously vanished from my system, I noticed two other problems, one regarding capture sharing. It was only on some games for this problem and I asked on Twitter to Xbox support
about it but of course my question was ignored. My uploads of captures would show in Xbox Live tab but not on the game feed for others to see (only select games). With some games, it was a gamble if they would appear after upload while some that did appear
would be late, taking anywhere from a few hours to a couple days (after upload finished) before they would show up in the feed of the game for all to see. My ignored question to Xbox Support was asking do these have to be approved by a person to appear or
is it supposed to be automatic that they appear or something else to it? It was odd it started when I tried to upload captures showing bugs/glitches in a game while most others would appear without issue that I had not tried to show a glitch/bug issue in a
    game.

The other problem that started up out of the blue was trimming some captured video but not all, not every time. Progress bar would get so far and then hang while bobbing back and forth a bit until it timed out with an error. I found a work around that was
a pain (trim at different spots and make less trims & repeat over & over until trimmed down to where I wanted).

Anyway, my main concern and question is, what is happening to make our captures get wiped from our systems? I see this has been an issue for people with an Xbox One X since at least last year but it's like no one cares to explain what may be the reason
(except to say things that clearly aren't the case) or just flat out ignore the question with some even talking about things that aren't what's being asked. With that said, I don't have much faith in my question getting truly answered but in case I am wrong,
I write all this out anyway.

    :)

Did you figure out how to get them back? Same thing happened to me and its frustrating to say the least.

A hard reset may solve this problem.

Hold down the power button until the system shuts down and unplug the power cable.

Wait for 5 min and plug it back in and restart the console

Yes, this began happening this past October. After a set amount of time, if a capture has no views, it is automatically deleted in order to conserve space on your Xbox Live uploads. It should still be on your console that you took the capture on though,
    I believe.

Here is the news announcement article about this when it was announced:

    https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2018/10/11/october-2018-xbox-update-available-now/

To quote the part that pertains to this:

    "Updates to Captures

We’re updating GameDVR (“Captures”) storage policies to help ensure you’ve got access to the Captures that matter most. Starting Monday, October 29, we’ll be doubling the amount of Xbox Live Captures storage offered to all Xbox Live members. With this
change, content previously captured that’s 90 days or older with no views will be automatically deleted and moving forward, content over 30 days with no views will be automatically deleted to ensure we’re helping you store the content that matters most. If
you’ve got favorite Xbox Live Captures you want to keep,
visit this page to learn how
to backup your Captures to a virtual drive or external storage.

I hope this helps. This should explain where your captures went. I'm sorry if you lost any that you wanted to save. I would check on your console and see if they are still saved on there. You can view it under your Manage Captures selection under your
Watch tab from your profile, on console. Then you can select to view All, the captures on your Console, or only ones on Xbox Live.

That was one of the first things I tried. Anything common sense like that I made sure to try, no matter how pointless it seemed to me it would be to try.

Hi there! Have you checked that you’re not looking at only your captures store on Xbox Live instead of all your captures stored locally? Eventually you will run out of space on your Live profile for captures, at which point they stop uploading automatically,
but are still stored locally on your console.

Hit the guide button and hit right on the d-pad twice to get to “Capture and Share”. Then go down and select “Recent Captures” to open your Capture Management screen. From there the first box in the top left hand corner should allow you to toggle between
“Xbox Live” and “On This Xbox”. All of your locally stored captures will be under On This Xbox, and if you want to you can remove some of your Xbox Live captures and replace them with new ones that are stored locally.

    Hopefully this helps, cheers!
I am choosing from the drop down menu tab to see from my console and they are all suddenly gone as I mentioned, except those 4 images I took a couple or so days ago which were also stored my system & exclusively so (not uploaded). The captures I did upload
to Xbox Live and OneDrive are fine (even the ones well over 100 days ago), it's the one's on my console that are wiped out and as I mentioned, a few of those I had decided to have stored only on my system.

My Live storage is not the problem, it's my system that they were mysteriously wiped from and on Live it's like as always, still 33 clips with majority under a minute in length if I recall correctly; 22 images and all are done in reduced quality mode (reduced
quality mode also for those few stored locally on system exclusively too). If it is thought I am wrong, look up my user name on https://gamerdvr.com/gamer// or https://xboxclips.com/ to
see it's not that I am checking the wrong thing to view on my system.
