    Can't use 5.1 Surround through TV in 4K


    Hi all,

    I just recently upgraded to the Xbox One X and I've run into an issue.

    My current setup is all my devices run into my TV via HDMI then OPTICAL OUT to my Samsung 5.1 Surround system only the problem I've run into with my X is the console won't recognise my setup supports 5.1 on Auto-Detect TV Connection. Once I set it to HDMI/1080p,
    I can use 5.1 Surround but then I lose 4K and HDR.

    My Samsung system doesn't have HDMI IN so I can only use optical.

    Error code 0x80bd0009 xbox one x

    upgraded to one x and still have the 0x80bd0009 problem. Can't select 5.1 or 7.1 surround white on 4K. Been a major problem for almost 2 years. Xbox is plugged directly into Samsung ks9000 4k tv, and going to the receiver (str1030) with HDMI ARC.

    Upgraded to Xbox One S now surround sound no longer works (0x80bd0009)

    I can only use 5.1 when I reconfigure settings from auto detect (4k uhd) to manual HDMI (1080p) The issue is that I must choose between 4k HDR and 5.1 surround. They cannot both be used together. Need Help!!

    The Xbox Console will only detect what it's connecting too and not what's "after" your tv. You could try and run HDMI OUT from the Xbox to the TV for just straight video and run Optical out of the Xbox to an optical in port on the
    receiver for your audio

    That's a shame as it works fine in 1080p when I set my TV connection to HDMI but as soon as I set it to Auto-Detect and set my resolution to 4K UHD, it fails to detect 5.1 Surround Sound support. Why does it work fine in 1080p but fail in 4K?

    Oh well, just going to have to deal with TV Audio as I won't be sacrificing 4K/HDR gaming just for surround sound.

    If you carry out an internet search it may be possible for you to purchase an optical splitter similar to the one attached below that should allow you to connect the Optical feed from your Xbox One to your sound bar along with the optical feed from your
    television and you then just need to switch between the two as required.

    You might try different HDMI cables. You'll need HDMI 2.0 cables for 4K the 1080P standard just requires HDMI 1.4

    The Xbox tries to detect what it's connecting too. I seem to recall an issue some time back where if the TV was set to "game mode" it limited what the Xbox was able to detect. Also some TV's don't have HDMI 2.0 for all ports. You might check and see if the
    coloring is different on the HDMI ports on your TV

    TV Tuner Stereo output only?

    Will this issue ever be resolved Microsoft? To get surround sound (5.1) for live TV I may have to give up the guide and XBOX ONE and get live TV through my TV where I get 5.1 surround. This is going backward in my opinion as XBOX ONE guide is excellent.
