Can't Use 25 Character Code For Renewal?

I bought a code to renew my Gold sub which runs out next month. I keep getting an error (0x80169CF9) when I try to redeem it on the website. The error says something about not being able to use a code when I have auto-renewal turned off and the payment
option associated with Live is no longer valid.



I went into my Subscriptions on the MS page, but can't turn renewal on. It's not an option as the last few times I bought Gold was with a prepaid card.



Why is this so difficult?! Why prevent me from using this code? The only option that seems to be available is to let my Gold expire next month, then use the card which I will be holding onto for the next 6 weeks.



Is there something I'm missing??

Xbox Live Gold trouble

If it was a bundle with a 3 month code, you should have gotten a card in the box with a 25 character code on it.

Use that 25 character code to redeem your membership.

if it's a 25 character code you can redeem via console or xbox.com or account.microsoft.com

On the one: 1.From the Home screen, scroll right to Store.

2.Under Games, select Use a code.

3.Select Or enter the 25-character code.

Then Use the onscreen keyboard to enter your 25-character code on the Enter your code screen, and then select Enter & Select Confirm.

Sometimes, the system does not allow a paid membership to stack up with a prepaid code subscription. In order to turn on automatic renewal, you need to have a valid card associated with your active membership.

The only option you have if all else fails is to reach out Xbox Support chat/phone to see any alternatives for your to be able to redeem your code right away.

 

If I try to input the code via the console itself, will it give me the same error? Or, is that an option to try?

It will also give the same error for this one. our suppose to be option for this one is to turn on your renewal first so that you can redeem your code but since you already turn it off and remove the card associated with the description, you can not stack
up the subscription. You need to wait for your current subscription to end for you to redeem the code.

Because the payment option has been removed from your current subscription, you won’t be able to add a prepaid code or token for a subscription while your current one is still active. You’ll need to wait until it has ended to redeem the token.

However, subscription tokens don’t expire, so you can still use it at a later date. To check when your subscription will end, sign in to your account to view your current subscriptions and end dates.

 

This error message occurs when you have an active subscription but auto renewal is turned off, and the payment option used to purchase that subscription is no longer associated with it or has been removed from your account. This would mean that you used
a different option to purchase your current subscription, then that payment method was removed. This could be that the card you had on your account has expired. Being so, my prior answer is the only thing you can do.

 

If you wish to use a gift card or what they term as local currency, it can't be used to renew Gold subscription. Microsoft currency is virtually considered as real money and it works just like real cash money. Just like real cash money though, it cannot
be used to purchase Gold membership directly from our system. Our system only sells renewing Gold membership and for security reasons, it will require a valid payment method like credit cards and Paypal that can accommodate renewing monthly/quarterly/yearly
charges. Our system follows an account-based program when selling Gold membership.

 

^^ I'm not sure where you are getting the pronoun, "our", from? As I previously mentioned, I'm trying to renew my Gold account with a 12 Month Gold Card... NOT a gift card or MS points.

Since you have previously used auto renewal to purchase a membership you will now have to wait untill that membership runs out before you can start using Gold membership cards.

You can check when your current membership is going to run out right here
account.microsoft.com/services once it has run out you should be able to use your 25digit code for your 12M membership and then stack up to 3 years if you wish to do so

Any time you have a subscription where the payment instrument has been PULLED from it, you cannot stack. It's called a "soft lock" and you'll have to wait for the subscription to end before redeeming your code.
