    Can't update firmware on xbox wireless controller


    I'm having a small deadzone problem with my one year old xbox controller on PC. It connects wirelessly or wired to my PC and I can play many games with it just fine, but sometimes when I let the sticks move back to the center, the controller acts as if they are still moved to the edges.

    So I am trying to update the firmware on the controller to see if that fixes it. I plug the controller in via a USB cable and open the xbox accessories app. I go to the testing page and see that the app registers button presses correctly. I click the "..." button and then the "update now" button. It shows that I have firmware version 3.1.1221.0. The update process starts but stays at 0% forever. I've tried restarting the computer and controller, and I've tried different USB cables. What else can I try?

    Hi, thanks for your suggestions.



    I don't understand solution 1 very well. I can open "applications and features" and search, but I don't understand what to search for. Do you mean that I should search for the xbox accessories app? When I left-click on this app, I see "Move," "Uninstall," and "Advanced options." When I click Advanced Options I see Terminate, Reset, and Uninstall. I tried Reset but I still see the problem.



    I also tried uninstalling the app, restarting the computer, and reinstalling it, and that fixed the problem. I was able to update the firmware on the controller.

    Go to your windows settings, go to the tab>applications and features>Search for Accessories, that click with the left mouse button on it, go to advanced options, and tap repair or restore.

    Solution 2:

    Uninstall the accessory app, restart your computer, and install it again from the Microsoft store.
