Can't start Xbox Original game on Xbox 360

This probably has to do with downloading the game and the Optional Media Update on a different console first.

The way the copy protection and licensing on the Xbox 360 works is that each download has two digital "locks" so to speak.

In order to use a digital download, it's sufficient to be able to unlock only one lock.

When you buy a digital game, one key for these locks is stored online with your Xbox Live account. The second key is downloaded to the first Xbox 360 console that downloads that game or add on (like the optional media update). All other Xbox 360 consoles
that download the game again after the first console, do NOT get the key (but you can resolve that, more on that later).

If you have a console that has the key for the game stored, you (and everyone else on that console) can play that game offline.

If the console doesn't have the key, because you copied/moved the game to a new console, then you need to retrieve the key through your account being online.

For games, you can transfer the console key, by doing a license transfer. It seems that Microsoft changed the process of setting the Xbox 360 "Home Console" as described here: https://beta.support.xbox.com/help/xbox-360/store/error-message-content-other-console

It seems you now simply download a new, never previously owned download on your console (e.g. a free demo of an arcade game) and it should set your console as your new primary console. If that doesn't work, you initiated a license transfer by going to the
console settings, and under Account you could then somewhere start a license transfer. However, since I can't find the old instructions on the Xbox support website, you might have to look in the account section of the Xbox 360 settings.

After you initiated the license transfer, you will have to download your games again. Don't worry, if the game is still stored on your console, the console will only download a small license key file for the console, not the whole game.

However, the Optional Media Update is/was a bit special. I don't know if you still need to do the following, since they seemed to have changed the License Transfer method, but if you continue to get issues with the Optional Media Update, create a new (free)
Microsoft Account on your Xbox 360 console. Now download the Optional Media Update with that NEW account you just created and download it on your Xbox 360 you wish to use offline.

That will create a new console license key for the Optional Media Update and you should be able to use it with every account on the console as well as offline.

I believe it did work .. thank you for your help .. but it does sometimes say that when im not connected to the internet . And the update is done ans its download vidoes and movies but after that it didnt give me problems i turned off the internet and i
chose some movies as a test and they all played without the internet ...of course after the update .

Thanks for coming to the forums. Unfortunately, as a digital game you need to be signed in and connected to the internet due to it is a backward compatible title.

Thanks for the reply. You will be able to play any Xbox 360 games on the console offline. If multiplayer games then you would not be able to play them.

Ive seen it suggested that this is because of it being a BC game, but on my home console I can play any game I own digitally offline as long as I update the licensing once a month. On my main console which is not my home console, I must be online at all
times to play. There are some games I have heard have special checks, and I could imagine those, if bought digitally, could require you to be online but I have not encountered such yet myself in my 400 game plus library. I own DAH physically, and can confirm
that it will run offline on a home console. I do not recall if I also own it digitally, though I think I might. When trying without the disk, I am told I need to get online to check licensing or insert a disk in the drive. I hope this helps.
