  1. Can't remove family member though I am the Family Organizer

    Hi Team,

I am an (adult) family group organizer and need to remove a member of the group. Yet, I am getting the following message when trying to remove a family member:

You can't remove xxx from your family group

Family members under the legal age need adult consent to join the family group. Only an adult who has given consent for Damian can remove this family member. Ask the family organizer, who has given consent for Damián, to remove Damián from the family group.

    What should I do?

I have also noticed that the email address of the family member is a strange outlook email address which I do not know where it is coming from. Maybe the account has been hacked?? Because another issue which I have is that the former (correct) email address appears like not existing account for microsoft. So I feel a bit helpless here.

Thanks for your help in advance!

    :)

Can't remove family member though I am the Family Organizer

Hi Miroslav, my name is Rodrigo. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.

I am sorry to hear that.

Were you the one who added this account? As the Family Organizer, you would need to remove the consent first, and then remove it from your family group.

Please, follow these steps to try it:

    Go to family.microsoft.com.

Sign in with your Microsoft account, then, to remove a member, scroll down and select Manage my child's profile info, find their name, select Remove consent for this child's account, and confirm.

Go back to your family's page, and under the member's name, select More options > Remove from family group, and confirm.

In case it does not work, and you believe your account has been compromised, please, use this website to get help securing your account.

Family Member Won't Show up in Microsoft Family Group

    Hello,
    Thank you for your response.
By logging into the link provided I see other family members; however, I only see the organizer, and not the other members of my family. I do not pop up as an organizer nor as a family member. The organizer still cannot see me, nor am I an organizer, because they are the only one. Thank you for the help, though it does not seem to have fully solved the issue.

Family Member Won't Show up in Microsoft Family Group

That means that a different family organizer added that members and only that family organizer can remove him, this is a safety measure

How do I make my child the adminstrator on his laptop in Microsoft Family?

    Thanks for the reply.

I am using the Microsoft Family Website and I am logged in on my account as the family organzier, the only family organizer our family account has ever had.

Unless they are hidden somewhere very obscure, I cannot find where I can give my son administrator access to his own computer for school. It feels as if there are a layer of controls that are being hidden from me, the parent, for my own family account.

When I try to just remove him from the family account, I get the following message:

You can't remove [Son] from the family group

Family members under statutory age need an adult's consent to join a family group. Only the adult that granted consent for [son] can remove this family member. Ask the family organizer who granted [son] consent to remove [son] from the family group.

This is pretty infuriating and starting to make me really wish I never started the family account in the first place.

Are you the adult that added his account?
