Cant redeem xbox live gold membership??????

Brought 3 month membership for my son for christmas.....ever since christmas day it tells us..."opps something went wrong"

How do we redeem this membership or did i just waste my money?!

Did you try to redeem it on both the website and the console? If you tried on the console and got an 8 digit error code please post the code here. You can redeem on the console by pressing the Guide button, scroll left and choose Redeem Code.

Xbox Live trial memberships can only be redeemed if you do not have an existing Xbox Live Gold membership. You can redeem a trial code once your current membership has expired.

Just to clarify, did you purchase an Xbox Live Gold membership through the Dashboard promotion on your console? Or did you redeem a pre-paid Xbox Live membership? If you redeemed a pre-paid code, you will not qualify for this offer. In order for you to qualify
for this offer, you would have needed to purchase an Xbox Live Gold membership directly through the promotion on your console. Thanks!

i have bought a second hand xbox and it works perfectly . i have purchased a 12 month live gold membership and redeemed it and have had an e mail to confirm . but i cant play any live games , it comes up with you need to have live gold to play this game
or connections your profile does not have the correct permissions to access xbox live functionality . why is this ?
