Can’t pull Xbox keyboard to message people out nor can restart my console

When i go to add me people or message people the keyboard does not pop up and i cant hold the xbox home button down to restart and have to mannualy shut my xbox off and cant restart at all please help microsoft

Try performing a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely.
Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes.
Plug the power cord back in and restart the console.

Thanks BA. I hit the Home Button (the Xbox Logo) and I get the message I mentioned - Turn Console Off, Turn Controller off or Restart Console. I restarted my console, pulled out the pull, I am getting the same message.

As for the download. I can't get to the download screen where I can pause it.

Can it be that I have an older Xbox?

Try restart your console, if you can’t do that then pull out the main power cable manually to restart console. Then run a series of connection tests, if still isnt working, try take back with warranty
