Can't play online with gamepass ultimate

Me and my friend are game sharing so that he can play my bought games and I get his gamepass ultimate, but after his subscription ran out and he re-bought it, I've been able to download and play gamepass ultimate games, but I can't play online, it redirects me to the microsoft store where I buy gamepass ultimate. Please help, I tried hard reset and it didn't work.

you need gamepass pc then, so you can't,

Gold for online play on console

Gamepass for gamepass games on console

Gamepass PC for games on pc with ea play attached

Ultimate gamepass - Gold, Gamepass, Gampass PC, EA Play and xcloud.

You need gamepass core or gamepass ultimate to play online except free to play games.

passkey is what you added to the account, nobody else can do that, as for online play you need gold for that, gamepass and gamepass ultimate are optional, gamepass ultimate includes gold, gamepass library and xcloud.

there have been changes too, as all free to play games no longer require gold to play online.

As long as you have a gold subscription or Game Pass Ultimate, then you can still play online multiplayer games.

Gold: Play online

Gamepass: play available library of games

Gamepass Ultimate: Play available Library & Online

Gold/Gamepass/Neither: play games you own locally

Once you verify that you do indeed have your active subscription, remember that there are three types of services on Xbox:

Xbox Live Gold: Allows you to use multiplayer.
Xbox Game Pass: Make a library of games available to you.
Xbox Game Pass ULTIMATE: A combination of the two.
As you will see, if you have Xbox Game Pass (only) you cannot play online, which means you cannot use Xbox Live Gold.
