Can't jump across ravine - New Direction mission.

Towards the end of the New Direction mission you have to jump across a ravine to get to the Dhal complex place. There is an outcrop in the middle of the ravine which you need to jump onto. I keep narrowly missing it. I've watched it done on youtube video,
and the player gets on the outcrop with room to spare.

I've no idea what I'm doing wrong. Left stick forward to run, then push button A to leap at edge of ravine. Any help?

stupid ways you failed missions

i was doing the property mission for trevor where you pick up drops with the buggy. i was driving off road close to the lake. i hit a jump that some how sent me flipping and flying towards the lake. the buggy sank and i failed the mission. i was not suppose
to fly in that direction. some how i did.

 

1.8.2 requires world restart?

Everything except new world locations such as mines...strongholds...ravines....bigger oceans....etc

 

I think the trick is to avoid the other ramp. Jump across to the top of the plateau instead. Took me a few tries.
