Can't get pass the 'Checking For Update' page on Xbox Series S

Good day all,

I just got a brand new Xbox Series S, but having extreme difficulty in setting up. I never got to use the system because I always get a system error when i try to set up the Xbox; I never got pass the 'Checking For Updates' section.

I tried everything... restarting, resetting (power cycle), reset to factory settings, and even offline update (osu1), but I will always end up on a system error page while the system is checking for update. When I used the offline method, the OSU1 file looks like it installed, but instead of going to the XBOX homescreen I go to the Checking for Update section, which inevitably leads to a system error.

I also use a wired connection BTW

Would really appreciate any assistance.

Seems like you have performed all the necessary steps, Librarc. In this case, it would be best to get the console repaired, to do so kindly sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/devices.

I bought an Xbox Series S as a dedicated Dev box and emulator. All my games are on the SSD. Since the patch, I can't play anything. I check every day for an update but there is none. It's frustrating. It negates the whole reason I bought a series S. I play my Series X for my retail games. There have been other patches on my series X and XB1 but none for Series S. Haven't seen any talk about this issue anywhere except this thread. I wonder how much attention this is really getting.

The only difference between a regular Xbox Series S console and an Xbox Series S Starter Bundle is that the Xbox Series S Starter Bundle includes also 3 months of Game Pass Ultimate, while the regular Xbox Series S does not.

You can find this under a zombie section of game pass on Xbox one (can't speak about series x/s on this though). My wife and I found it there.

Hello FlightENteF,

You mentioned you purchased Game Pass Ultimate and wanted to install STEEP but cannot find it in the Xbox App. According to the game information page, STEEP cannot be downloaded to a PC as it is only compatible with the Xbox One and Series X/S. If you have an Xbox One or Series X/S you may download the game and play it on the console.
