    Can’t get a Teredo IP address but my NAT type is open.


    Im suddenly dealing with a NAT type that alternates between moderate, open and ann error message saying "Can't get a Teredo IP" when testing my NAT type. I've followed every troubleshooting tip I could find online for this as well but I can't get rid of it. Ive also spoken to Verizon support with no solution ..l'm hoping someone here can help me. The last step I’ve taken was factory resetting both my router and my console, and even switching out to a different console but nothing has worked.

    I’ve tried opening all the necessary ports, enabling and disabling IPv6, enabling and disabling UPnP, creating a static IP address for my console, creating a static DNS and tried numerous alternate ports. I don’t know what else to do at this point.

    Router: I have a Verizon Fios: CR1000A

    Firmware version: 3.3.1.2

    I'm Nilay and I'll be glad to answer your query today.

    You’ll need to check your router’s confutation UI for an IPv6 settings page, and then look for the following options:

    Allow Teredo tunneling

    Allow IPv6 tunneling

    Reboot your network device or router.

    If you still see a screen that says Can’t get a Teredo IP address, or if your NAT Type is listed as Unavailable, then look for the following option on your router’s confutation UI: Enable IPv6

    If you see this setting, ensure that it is set to No (or Disabled). Reboot your network again.

    If you do not see the screen that says Can’t get a Teredo IP address this time, then check your new NAT type. If your NAT Type is Open, you’re done!

    If you do see the Can’t get a Teredo IP address screen again.

    Unable to connect to party chat at all on Xbox One. NAT type always strict and "Can't get a Teredo IP address" error testing multiplayer connection.

    Yes, NAT type shows strict and testing the multiplayer connection yields this error: 'Can't get a Teredo IP address'

      • Look for the NAT Type field. It should ideally display Open.
    1. Teredo IP Address:
      • Teredo is essential for secure communications between clients and servers. If your console encounters issues obtaining a Teredo IP address, it can affect party chat and multiplayer games.
      • If you encounter any of these error messages:
        • NAT Type: Unavailable
        • Can’t get a Teredo IP address
