Can't Find Person on Xbox

I was trying to link up with one of my friends from school to play FH4. But when i looked their gamertag it didn't show up. I also tried looking for their gamertag in multiple other games but it didn't show up as well. This also happened on the other end
for my friend when they looked up my gamertag it didn't show up for them either. We both then looked up each others gamertag on the internet to confirm we both existed and sure enough we did. So just too reinstate my question, both me and friend are unable
to play together because on both ends we cannot find each others gamertag.

is either one of the accounts a child family member account? if so this may be your issue as child accounts cant be found or search (i believe)
