Can't find my previously bought 360 games

I had a few games i bought and downloaded on when i originally owned a 360 and now when i look at the same games i can't download them unless i rebuy them. is there any way i can get them back or am i out of luck?

which games are u trying to download? not all xbox 360 games are backwards compatible. if you're sure the games you're trying to download are backwards compatible, press the xbox button, go to my games and apps and check your owned games.

Yes, I've installed it, but it dosen't seem to 'auto-detect' it - I can't find any option to add a previously bought game to the library.

Or am I missing something?

Try performing a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely.
Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes.
Plug the power cord back in and restart the console.
